Welcome to Charmax Farms. We are located in McKenzie, Alabama, approximately 100 miles north of Mobile, Alabama. Take I-65 north to exit 96, go east to highway 31 and follow signs to McKenzie, approximately 20 miles. We are the first breeders of Fullblood Braunvieh cattle in the state of Alabama. While others were cross-breeding the Braunvieh with other breeds to create a commercial animal, we have focused on breeding quality Fullblood Braunvieh that will work in harsh climates and extreme temperatures.
Our MissionWe have researched the history of the Braunvieh breed since 1994, when we purchased our first Original Fullblood Braunvieh. We are convinced that Braunvieh genetics will fit perfectly into today's market for premium beef. We are dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Original Fullblood Braunvieh. About UsWe have had several breeds of cattle throughout the years, but were completely in awe of the cattle that we saw in July of 1994, when we attended a sale at the Mississippi ranch of the late Gene Thompson. It was there that we saw the cattle that were not only the most beautiful we had ever seen, but were also thriving in the harsh environment of the Gulf South. Since our first encounter with the breed, we have met Original Braunvieh breeders from all over the world and have visited with breeders across the United States and Mexico. Our goal has been to strive to breed the very best cattle from the very best genetics in the Braunvieh breed. We researched the bloodlines and have continually strived to breed the genetic traits that make Braunvieh the superior choice in producing quality beef for today's market. We are Charles and Maxine Hooks. Charles works 24/7 with the cattle, along with his loyal companion Misty, who is always ready to go see the cows. Not much of a cow dog, but she loves to ride. Maxine is a Registered Nurse, working as a contract nurse, and looking forward to the time when she can spend more time at home.
